When I started my adventure 10 years ago, I had already been a professional photographer for 15 years and felt as though I had lost my voice—or perhaps never found my
own voice. Nonetheless, I realized that for me to find inspiration, to find love, I had to spend time with people who love what they do.
From ranchers in Texas to a chemist in Manhattan, a sumo wrestler in Asia to street performers in Cuba, people “just doing their jobs” have allowed me to photograph
them for this ongoing series. It’s important to me (and my photographs) to share authentic connections with these individuals in order to do my own meaningful work.
My process is rooted in composing complex images and capturing genuine moments that emerge through conversation, not necessarily direction.
I find that when I speak my truth, the truth comes back. Whatever role we play, whatever job title we hold for the time being, is just one part of a bigger, more complicated,
human picture. And our work will always be part of that.
At Work is my endeavor to explore photography, to be an example of compassion for my daughter Genevieve, and to share a connection with others across the globe.
To celebrate the dignity of work. To remember what it’s like to do what we love. To have a conversation, capture a moment, relay a message, create an image you won’t
